We Bombed in
By Joseph Heller
Directed by Tom Skore
November 23 –
A “theatre of war,” the term
often used to describe an area where military operations are ongoing. In Joseph Heller’s We Bombed in New Haven, war’s theatrical parallels – its realities,
abstractions, spectators, participants, glories, agonies, and absurdities - hit
us right between the eyes! And who
better to elucidate us on these matters than Joseph Heller, who flew 60
missions during WW II as a bombardier on a B-25. Best known for Catch 22, Heller brings
the same intensity, insight, and insanity to the stage in this tragi-comedy about our wars, our leaders, our apathy, and
most importantly, our duty to our children.
Written in 1967, We Bombed In New Haven is sadly more relevant now than when it was
written.
She Stoops to Conquer
By Oliver Goldsmith
Directed by Fran Lautenberger
February 29 –
A delightfully, charming
satire that has entertained audiences since 1773, She Stoops to Conquer follows
a well to do young man too shy to woo ladies of his own class. Whatever will the young man do, is he doomed
to be forever alone? Fear not for an
intrepid young lady poses as a serving girl to win his heart. Through a serious
of hilarious turns of plot, crazy characters and country bumpkins in the best
tradition of the Restoration comedy, Goldsmith takes the audience on a wild
ride through 18th century
